(2013) A kimono made of muslin, with a silky cloth color, and painted on with acrylic paints. This was my first time stitching and making clothes, making it a challenge. The back of the kimono depicts a 'Hyakki Yakou', Japanese for 'Night of a Hundred Demons' (a parade of spirits), my theme being Japanese spirits (Yokai). I grew up learning about these demons, such as spirit foxes, rokurokubi (long necked spirit), etc. The front is plain white, with a collar having a pattern similar to that of a scroll. The idea was the show contrast of the demonic and the pure within the folktales of Japan.
